Make Your Old Gold New

Imagine, it’s Christmas morning, you and your loved ones are all sitting around a beautifully decorated Christmas tree filled to the brim with memories of Christmas past. It comes time for you to open your gift from Grandma and you can see the tears welling in her eyes. You open the small box laden with a personally tied bow to find her wedding ring, gold, and diamonds, from 1945. Of course, now Grandma is crying and you are crying because Grandma’s crying but you don’t have the heart to tell her that while you feel so honored that she’d want to gift you something so precious to her, you simply couldn’t see yourself wearing that style, not to mention it’s about 4 sizes too small. What can you do?

Call Michael J’s

Of course, Grandma’s ring is incredibly special to you and you would never want to sell it but it also kills you to think about just leaving it in a jewelry box for years to come. Here is where Michael J’s comes in. Here at Michael J’s we have the ability to take Grandma’s old ring, remove the stones, melt down the gold and make something brand new that fits your style. This way, you are keeping the sentimentality but creating something that you will actually get to wear and enjoy daily.

How Can You Make Old Gold New??

All you have to do is bring the piece to Michael J’s at 747 N. Van Dyke Bad Axe, MI during normal business hours. Also, bring with you any photos or references if you have an idea in mind for your new piece. Our staff will then take photos of the piece, weigh the material, and measure the stones. From there, our excellent in-house designer will draw some rough sketches and write an estimate for the cost. Once you have seen the sketches and given a go-ahead we will then send the design to our CAD, Computer-aided Design, specialist who will then create a 3-D mock-up of the design. Our staff will send you the design and you will respond with any edits you may want to make. Our staff will make the changes until you love everything about the design.

After you have given the final go-ahead from the 3-D design, our staff will have a wax cut from that design. That wax is then used to create a mold. Michael J, our in-house jeweler with 40 years of experience, will melt your Grandmother’s ring down along with some fresh gold and pour it into the mold. Once the metal is cooled, Michael will set your Grandmother’s Diamonds and any additional stones into the new piece.

Finally, you have a brand new piece that you love that still holds the sentimental value that Grandma’s original ring held, but it’s something that you can wear and show off daily.

Call us today at 989-269-4653 to set up an appointment or simply come in during business hours. Our staff is ready to make your old gold new.
